Our Top 5 Gift Ideas for Crafters

It’s that time of year again that has us all scrambling around the shops looking for that perfect gift. Don’t be that person that hands your nearest and dearest a cosmetic set they don’t want – if you have a crafty person in your life we are here to give you the lowdown on what they might love!

For the Knitter/Crocheter in your life:

Thins we can never have enough of are as follows – needles/hooks and wool! However many sets of needles we have – we never have the right one/the right one is currently in use with another project. Treat your loved one to an amazing set of needles/hooks so they have what they need in a pretty case.

We will also never buy ourselves a nice knitting bag – we will use plastic bags, food bags and shopping bags if however one was to hand us a proper knitting/craft bag we would be very happy!

For the Serious Sewer in your life:

If somebody you know is serious about their sewing and depending on how much you love them may I suggest a sewing machine – they start at €109 and for somebody getting into sewing this is enough. If that someone already has a machine they might want an upgrade to one with more bells and whistles but I would not buy that as a surprise as us sewers can get attached to our machines! If like me that sewer has a machine they love but currently has it stored in a Lidl bag in a blanket box a machine bag would be a lovely gift to get (hint hint….)

For the Seamstress/Tailor in your life:

Those who dressmake usually have most of the good stuff already – good machine, decent scissors and all of the thread. If you really wanted to spoil this person get them an overlocking machine or a dressmakers dummy. This will make their dressmaking that much easier as they will be able to finish difficult jersey fabrics with ease or fit garments exactly as the bodyforms are fully adjustable.

For the Jack of All Trades in your life:

We all know/are someone who does a little bit of everything, knits, sews, glues and generally crafts up a storm. If they don’t already have one a glue gun will literally be the best thing that ever happened to them! I will also suggest the gift of a  craft bag as with so many crafts there’s usually a lotta stuff lying around. If you are buying for someone like this I have one little hint: there is always another craft to learn! Treat them to a cool kit for a craft they probably don’t do like needle felting Or even if they do it already a beautiful embroidery kit will get them through the festive season and beyond.

Final thoughts on your crafty loved ones:

It's good to remember that us crafters are a practical bunch and we generally love things that we perceive as useful. So if after reading the above you're still not sure what floats your crafters boat - give the gift of a gift voucher ( available in store) so they can craft to their heart's desire!

I started working for Hickeys when I was only 16 and my love affair with all things fabric, textiles and crafts began!! I always have some project on the go (even if they don't always get finished), and after 17 years in the business I'm still learning new things all the time from fellow staff and amazing customers!
